Supposedly, their posts do not appear in ranked results or even in followers’ feeds. Below, we examine the issue and explain the term “shadowban”, which translates into Russian as “shadow blocking”. Our company’s research gave us access to information and let us analyse thousands of social media profiles, bringing us into contact with the so-called Instagram shadowban. By studying profiles and the possible reasons they were restricted, we compiled a list of contributing factors. Below, they are listed in descending order of their likelihood of triggering this serious penalty. You can now check for a shadowban through our online service — [Check for a shadow ban in Instagram](https://i.apibossa.pw/shadowban). A detailed description of the tool can be found on the forum - [Description of the shadowban profile checker](https://forum.bos.bz/topic/262-onlayn-servis-proverki-akkauntov-na-tenevoy-ban-shadowban-v-instagram/). ## Alleged reasons for the restrictions The most common reasons for shadow blocking on Instagram are: - Using the same hashtag on several consecutive posts (~3 iDoT); - Exceeding follow and like limits through mass-following services (~3 iDoT); - Frequent photo and video posts from a [recently registered](http://wiki.bos.bz/arc_newprofile.php) account (~2 iDoT); - More frequent reports against the profile (~2 iDoT); - Spam in comments and messages (~2 iDoT); - Using auto-posting software (~1 iDoT). ———————— Occasional violations of this kind do not attract much attention from Instagram’s security system. Repeated instances of the conditions above usually trigger a partial or full block, rapidly lowering trust in the profile. We call this scale “Instagram Degree of Trus”, or “iDoT”. It is a decimal trust system: ten represents maximum Instagram trust, while “0” means a complete account block. ## How the authors explained the scale of trust The reasons above form only an approximate list; it cannot establish their precise importance or every violation criterion. Because “shadowban” is a relatively new concept, it is hard to say how accurately it reflects reality, especially given the limited information from Instagram’s management. Instagram support is difficult to contact, and those who reach it receive no concrete answers about this elusive restriction. The platform’s filters cannot always distinguish human actions from automated programs, so treat the list as guidance for protecting your profile from unwanted blocks. Many people know that Instagram has been using algorithms for a long time, analyzing the behavior of its users. Some behavioral factors were borrowed from another extremely popular social network Facebook. Now it remains only to guess that when the total degree of trust in behavioral information reaches 1-3 iDoT, it will be very difficult for publications from this profile to get places in the TOP and news feed. If the trust falls below one, the profile will receive a “full ban”. Instagram pays particular attention to artificial boosting of follows and likes — the most common cause of a shadowban. Other causes are less obvious but also periodically restrict users’ freedom in the app. How to get rid of a shadowban When a ban occurs, follow the conditions required to lift it. Do not trigger further protective measures: getting rid of the combined restrictions later will be extremely difficult. ## Described actions under restrictions The best response is temporary profile inactivity: no posts, no use of services and no other active actions. Three days is usually enough for this penalty to expire. There is also a longer ban lasting a month. If that happens, contact support: sometimes the issue can be resolved early.
